Hello, I'm Peter Crow, a director, advisor, educator and writer with an extensive record helping boards govern with impact. My contributions are underpinned by a life-long interest in leadership and organisational performance, specialist expertise in corporate governance, strategy and boardcraft, and an unbounded commitment to service.
Governance rolesMy board service includes director, trustee and chair appointments; principally of private and high-growth companies and family firms, but also social enterprises:
Trusted advisorSince stepping away from an executive career in 2001, I have been fortunate to advise thousands of boards and directors, of private and listed companies, family firms, state-owned enterprises, government agencies and social enterprises.
Engagements have included assisting boards determine corporate purpose and update strategy; establish fit-for-purpose governance frameworks; make informed decisions, especially strategic decisions; refine practices; improve boardroom dynamics; realise high organisational performance; and more besides.
While each situation has been unique, the goal has remained consistent: to build resilience and support long-term value creation. Deep knowledge, broad business and governance experience, innate curiosity, critical reasoning, and a strategic mindset inform my contributions, which have proved influential to the fortunes of organisations on five continents.
Every engagement is conducted with discretion, but some are strictly confidential, even to the extent that the identity of some board chairs, major shareholders, institutions and governments who have sought advice cannot be disclosed.
For more information, check the QuarryGroup website. I am available globally.
Director and board educationSharing knowledge and building capability is core to helping boards govern with impact. I design and deliver director development courses, masterclasses, and graduate programmes to build capability and equip directors and chairs. Here is a selection of the public courses I have designed and delivered:
In addition to public courses delivered under the aegis of an institution, I also tailor courses to suit specific client needs and objectives, and welcome enquiries.
Keynote talks and guest lecturesI have made keynote, panelist and after dinner contributions at business and academic conferences, industry seminars, award ceremonies and dinner events; across the United Kingdom and Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Commonly requested topics include:
Note: The breadth of my general knowledge provides the credibility to accept invitations to discuss a wide range of business and social topics.
Audience members have generously used terms such as 'eloquent', 'authoritative', 'insightful' and 'deft communicator' to describe my contributions. I prefer a more straightforward term: a storyteller.

Writings and published materialsMy commitment to helping boards govern with impact extends to written contributions. These include Musings (my blog), published articles and research papers and, once it is written, a book. I also accept invitations to write articles for trade publications, membership magazines, and in-house newsletters.
CredentialsMy credentials include a doctorate in corporate governance and strategy (a study that sought to explain how boards can influence company performance); a first in technology and management; chartered membership of the Institute of Directors; and memberships of several international institutions including the International Corporate Governance Network, the European Institute for Advanced Studies in Management and the Peter Drucker Society.
After hoursI enjoy relaxing with family, reading history, and pursuing interests in classic cars and road cycling. My wife and I live in New Zealand; we have three adult children.
